Here is what I have been waiting for from Desiring God.  This eschatology discussion took place the Sunday evening of the Conference "Calving in the Theater of God."  Represented here are three men who love the Lord Jesus but all hold to three different views of the Millennium.  The three views include Pre-Mil, Post-Mil, and A-Mil.  As I said I am going to show the first half one of this during an evening service because it is the first half of this video that really lays out clearly what these three views represent.  The second half is more debate about the views.  I would encourage you to watch this and give me your feedback.  My seminary training definitely took us the path of Sam Storms and an A-Mil approach to the book of Revelation, but I have since been convinced more to the Post-Mil understanding which Doug Wilson represents here.  These of course are secondary issues behind the gospel message.  However what you believe about this stuff will ultimately have an effect on how you live awaiting the fullness of the kingdom of God and Christ's coming physical rule and reign.

(For reference the pre-mil view is what is pro-ported by the "Left Behind" book series of which I believe to be a very umbilical view or more accurately an non biblical one.  However the pre mil view is also the most popular current evangelical understanding of Christ's coming.)

So check it out here and let me know what you think, or just wait until we view it together on an upcoming evening.

To be fair to pre-mills, the theology of the Left Behind series is not historic pre-millenialism, it is dispensational pre-millenialism. From all my studies they are very different beasts. In fact, I know dispensationalist pre-mill people who were frustrated that their view was in included in this round table. I have much less issues with historic pre-mill views.

There is something very funny about calling pre-millenialism an "umbilical" view. (Maybe it's only funny to us medical types - it's an adjective meaning "of the belly button.") Hah.

(this comment is from Jeff)

This is a fun video, thanks for posting it. I've watched about half of it (its really long!). My favorite line so far is Piper's "good grief, Sam," in response to Sam saying he would have to abandon inerrancy to be pre-mil. What a perfect response! On a related note... its a shame to see the a-mil guy being the least winsome of the three.

Piper: "I've lost control!"

So this is what happens when you get four pastors together. Good thing Jim and Sam were on opposite sides of the table =P "Good grief, Sam." Haha.

I don't have any knowlege at all of any one of these views, so naturally, I was drawn to character of the one presenting it. I believe the Spirit was at that table, moving all of them to find the truths of the passages, and that Spirit will be shown somewhat by way of humility, patience, and submission to the Bible's authority. Doug seemed to me to be most humble and patient (though also the most humorous =P).

Honestly, I don't spend very much time in Revelation because it is so difficult to understand, and because pastors everywhere have their own interpritations and disagreements. However, I still believe that it is the word of God and should be studied like any other book in the Bible.

I couldn't make much sense out of Jim's argument except that all suffering will end at the 2nd coming, and then the millennium.

Doug's view is that we are in the millennium right now, and that Satan is bound (in some ways but not all) and Christ will be coming very soon? I lean towards this but I just don't know...

Sam believes there is no millennium on Earth, and that's all I picked up on before he got into some heavy stuff.

I suppose I can't say where I stand without studying it for myself.

Well, if nothing else, we at least learn that the laid-back, witty guy comes off a whole lot better than the defensive overbearing guys.

That's what I was thinking, too.
